AU Commission for Political Affairs, Peace & Security in a visit to Sahrawi Republic’s institutions
A delegation from the African Union’s Commission for Political Affairs, Peace & Security began a visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps on Sunday as part of a multi-day working visit to institutions of the Sahrawi Republic.
The visit, conducted under the Maputo Protocol, aims to familiarize the delegation with Sahrawi institutions. The delegation held a meeting with the Minister of Social Affairs and Women’s Empowerment, H.E. Mrs. Suelma Beiruk.
During the meeting, Mrs. Suelma Beiruk reaffirmed the Sahrawi state’s commitments regarding women’s issues, emphasizing that these commitments are firmly established on the ground.
She highlighted the ability of Sahrawi women to assume their responsibilities and demonstrate their skills and competencies at all levels and across various fields.
Accompanied by the Sahrawi Permanent Representative to the African Union and Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Lamine Baali, the delegation is scheduled to make field visits to women’s centers in the Wilayas of Smara and Auserd.
It will also tour institutions such as the National Museum of Resistance and the Association of Families of Sahrawi Prisoners and Disappeared Persons.
The delegation will also meet with representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Religious Affairs, Youth and Sports, Religious Affairs, and Economic Development.
