President Ghali Advocates for agricultural transformation at CAADP Summit in Kampala
Sahrawi President Brahim Ghali, accompanied by a high-level delegation, participated this morning in the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union’s Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). The event, held in Kampala under the theme “One Voice, One Land,” brings together African leaders to chart the future of agriculture on the continent.
In his keynote address, President Ghali expressed gratitude to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for hosting the summit, emphasizing the warm reception received in Kampala. He highlighted the importance of agriculture not just as an economic sector but as a foundation for food security and sustainable development. He stressed the need for collaboration, urging African nations to turn challenges into opportunities through solidarity, equity, and mutual respect.
President Brahim Ghali outlined three main pillars essential for the success of Africa’s agricultural agenda, advocating for a shift from traditional farming methods to integrated, transformative agricultural systems. He emphasized the role of modern technologies, institutional capacity-building, and economic diversification in achieving food security and improved nutrition.
He further highlighted the pivotal role of women and youth in the agricultural sector, calling for tailored policies to empower these groups. He underscored their potential to drive innovation and sustainability, making their inclusion vital for Africa’s agricultural success.
The Sahrawi President similarly emphasized the importance of strong partnerships and coordinated efforts among African Union member states, calling for innovative and shared solutions to address common challenges, ensuring equitable development across the continent while supporting nations with the greatest needs.
Furthermore, President Ghali reaffirmed the Sahrawi Republic’s unwavering commitment to the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and its principles of solidarity and human rights. He concluded by urging African leaders to work collectively towards building resilient agricultural systems capable of addressing the continent’s needs and contributing to global food security.
The President also commended AU Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Josefa Sacko for her efforts in organizing the summit and pledged the Sahrawi Republic’s full support for its objectives and outcomes.
It should be noted that before the Sahrawi Republic was represented during the two first days of the CAADP Summit by the President of Economic Development and Agriculture in the first and the President of Foreign Affairs in the Second.
President Ghali is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Mohamed Sidati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fatma Mehdi, Minister of Cooperation, Baba Ahmed Fdeid, Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, Ambassador to South Africa and AU Affairs Coordinator, Lamine Baali, Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Abdati Breika, Advisor to the Presidency, Salha El Abd, Ambassador and Director of Presidential Protocol, Moussa Blal, Director of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taleb Ibrahim Khalil, Director of Agriculture at the Ministry of Economic Development, Mohamed Ali Daf, Chargé d’Affaires at the Sahrawi Embassy in Uganda.
