SADR participates in 5th Session of STC on Health, Nutrition, Population, and Drug Control

The Sahrawi Republic is participating in the Fifth Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Health, Nutrition, Population, and Drug Control (STC-HPNDC-5), held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from August 5 to 9, 2024.

This session, themed “Cultivating Wellness in Africa: Holistic Approaches to Health, Nutrition, Population, Drug Control, Crime Prevention, and Education,” aims to review the progress of AU and STC decisions, provide policy guidance, and adopt reports, frameworks, and recommendations for the Executive Council of the AU. The meeting will address key areas such as health, nutrition, population, drug control, and crime prevention, with the goal of enhancing the health and socio-economic well-being of Africa’s population. The STC-HNPDC-5 will also consider significant documents in these sectors.

The STC-HNPDC-5 convenes ministers responsible for health, nutrition, population, and drug control, as well as experts from relevant AU organs like AUDA-NEPAD and Africa CDC, and representatives from Regional Economic Communities. Pan-African and international organizations involved in these fields are invited to the opening and closing sessions.

Representing the Sahrawi Republic at this session are Mr. Hayai Ahmed Baba Hayai, Director of Information and Awareness at the Ministry of Public Health, and Mr. Aman Sidi Abdallah, First Secretary of the Sahrawi Embassy in Addis Ababa and Permanent Representative to the African Union.

On the first day of the session, Mr. Hayai Ahmed Baba Hayai delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Ministry of Public Health’s efforts in communication and health awareness for disease prevention. He also proposed several initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperative efforts among African Union countries, particularly in the exchange of health information and knowledge.
