Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs Participates in CAADP Summit’s Second Day in Kampala

The Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Sidati, actively participated yesterday 10 January 2025 in the second day of the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), held in Kampala, Uganda, from January 9 to 11, 2025.

The second day’s sessions, presided over by Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the current Chairperson of the AU Executive Council, brought together African Ministers of Foreign Affairs alongside key officials, including Uganda’s Vice President, Jessica Alupo, Uganda’s Foreign Minister, Jeje Odongo, and AU Commissioner for Agriculture, Josefa Sacko.

In his remarks, Minister Sidati underscored the strategic importance of agriculture in the economies of African nations, emphasizing its role in achieving food security, poverty alleviation, and job creation. He highlighted the urgent need to implement the commitments outlined in the Kampala Declaration, which serves as a roadmap for resilient agricultural and food systems across the continent.

“We must work together to realize the objectives of the Kampala Declaration. Building resilient agricultural systems is essential to addressing the challenges of the future, ensuring food security, and creating sustainable opportunities for our people,” Sidati stated.

The Sahrawi Republic’s delegation on this day also included Ambassador Moussa Blal, Director of African Affairs at the Sahrawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their participation highlights the Sahrawi Republic’s commitment to advancing agricultural transformation and fostering solidarity among African nations.

The Extraordinary Summit, which began on January 9, initially convened Ministers of Agriculture to discuss the implementation of the CAADP’s transformative 10-year strategy (2026–2035). Sahrawi Minister of Economic Development and Agriculture, Dr. Baba Ahmed Fdeid, led the Sahrawi delegation on the first day, presenting the Republic’s unique challenges and advocating for inclusive development strategies.

The summit will conclude on January 11 with a high-level meeting of African Heads of State and Government, including the participation of Sahrawi President Brahim Ghali and an accompanying presidential delegation. The final session is expected to endorse the Kampala Declaration and adopt the CAADP Ten-Year Strategy, marking a significant step toward sustainable agricultural growth and resilience across the continent.

The Sahrawi Republic’s active involvement in the summit reflects its unwavering commitment to the collective vision of an inclusive and prosperous Africa.
