Sahrawi Republic and Mexico strengthen historical ties in celebration of 45 years of diplomatic relations
As part of the celebration of 45 years of diplomatic relations between the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Mexico, the two countries affirmed yesterday, the strength of their ties and their commitment to the principles of sovereignty and the right to self-determination of the Sahrawi people during an official reception for the Sahrawi Ambassador to Mexico, Mokhtar Labeihi, by the President of Mexican Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña.
During the meeting, the two parties stressed the excellent state of bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, both at the parliamentary and political levels.
The President of the Senate emphasized Mexico’s historical position in supporting the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, stressing that the sovereignty of the Sahrawi Republic is a fundamental principle of Mexican foreign policy.
It is worth noting that this position has been consistent over 45 years of relations between the two countries, which have been characterized by mutual respect and cooperation in various international forums.
For his part, the Sahrawi ambassador thanked the Senate and its President for the warm reception, expressing the deep appreciation of the Sahrawi people towards Mexico for its continued support for its cause on the international scene.
The celebration of this anniversary represents an important moment in the history of relations between Mexico and the Sahrawi Republic, further strengthening the cooperation and bonds of friendship that unite the two countries in their common struggle for justice and self-determination of peoples.
