Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) 26th Nov 2024– The Sahrawi Republic participated in the 8th Africa Infrastructure Development Week held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Representing the Sahrawi Republic at this significant event was the Minister of Transport and Energy, Salec Mohamed Mbarec.

Hosted by the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the event was organized by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa under the theme: “Enhancing Resilient and Inclusive Infrastructure for Sustainable Growth in Africa: Leveraging Transformational Financing and Regional Integration.”

This platform brought together stakeholders to review progress, forge new partnerships, and explore innovative financing solutions for Africa’s infrastructure needs.

The agenda aligns with the broader vision of Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The focus this year was on accelerating the implementation of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) projects by advancing transformational financing, promoting regional integration, and enhancing sustainable infrastructure development across the continent.

Key outcomes expected from the week include reinforcing the vision for PIDA projects, identifying innovative financing models and private sector opportunities, and gaining deeper insights into the challenges and progress in implementing infrastructure initiatives. The event also showcased successful infrastructure projects and shared best practices from across the continent. Discussions, workshops, and presentations provided participants with valuable learning opportunities and innovative strategies.

The African Union emphasized the importance of replicable success stories as valuable projects that could be scaled up in other regions, contributing to a cohesive and effective agenda for infrastructure development in Africa.
